Anonymity arises in several contexts, in e-voting systems, e-payment transactions, location-based services, and more generally in situations where an identity service provides some authorization to users.

In this talk, I will give a few illustrations of some technical issues for anonymous authentication in both the interactive and non-interactive settings. As a first step, I will review security notions and constructions for anonymous encryption schemes and will propose applications to provable-secure password-based key-exchange protocols.

I will then introduce anonymous credentials, which are signatures enabling users to authenticate later on to some service provider without revealing any information about them. I will finally present an efficient provable-secure e-cash system as one of its many applications.
